The Philosophy

Medical Foundation First

No laser treatment, exosome injection or supplement can compensate for uncontrolled DHT-driven follicle miniaturisation. The medical foundation — addressing the hormonal driver of hair loss with prescription medications — must be established first. Energy treatments and growth factor therapies then build on this foundation to maximise regrowth potential.

The Protocol

Seven Steps, Evidence-Based

Dr Sin Yong's anti-hair-loss medication protocol is structured as a seven-step programme. Steps are introduced progressively based on diagnosis, response and tolerance. Not every patient requires all seven steps — the protocol is personalised at consultation.

The 7-Step Anti-Hair-Loss Medication Protocol

Step 1 — Oral Finasteride

5-alpha reductase inhibitor that reduces scalp DHT by up to 70%. The most evidence-supported medical treatment for androgenetic alopecia. Prescribed in appropriate candidates after discussion of benefits and risks.

Step 2 — Topical Minoxidil

Vasodilator that prolongs the anagen (growth) phase of the hair cycle. Available as solution or foam. Minoxidil is effective independently of DHT and can be used in both men and women.

Step 3 — Topical Finasteride

For patients who wish to reduce systemic DHT exposure, topical finasteride delivers active medication to the scalp with lower systemic absorption than oral formulations.

Step 4 — Spironolactone (Selected Cases)

Anti-androgen used in selected female patients with androgenetic alopecia or hormonal hair loss where conventional treatments are insufficient.

Step 5 — Nourkin (TricoVerde)

A clinically formulated nutritional supplement containing saw palmetto, biotin, zinc, and key micronutrients shown to support hair follicle health. Used alongside medical treatment for nutritional support.

Step 6 — Derive Serum (Exosome Topical)

An exosome-based scalp topical containing growth factors and signalling molecules. Applied daily to maintain growth factor delivery to follicles between clinic sessions.

Step 7 — Blood Test Monitoring

Dr Sin Yong monitors hair loss treatment response and safety through structured blood testing. Baseline bloods assess for contributing factors (ferritin, iron, thyroid, zinc, hormone levels). Follow-up bloods at 3–6 months monitor treatment response and safety parameters (liver function for oral finasteride). Monitoring ensures treatments are effective and well-tolerated, and allows early detection of any contributing nutritional deficiencies that can be corrected to accelerate response.

Frequently Asked Questions — Anti-Hair-Loss Medications

Yes. Finasteride is a prescription medication in Singapore and must be prescribed by a licensed doctor after appropriate assessment. Dr Sin Yong prescribes and oversees finasteride as part of the hair loss protocol.

Finasteride must be taken continuously to maintain its effect. Stopping the medication typically results in resumption of hair loss within 3–6 months. Most patients who respond well remain on finasteride long-term.

Nourkin TricoVerde contains a proprietary blend including saw palmetto (a mild 5-alpha reductase inhibitor), biotin, zinc, selenium, and other micronutrients formulated to support hair follicle health and reduce shedding.

Yes. Medical treatment alone (finasteride and/or minoxidil) can effectively slow hair loss and stimulate some regrowth. Adding Luminescence Laser and exosome injections significantly enhances outcomes, but they are not prerequisites.

A baseline panel typically includes: serum ferritin, total iron, TIBC, TSH (thyroid), free T4, zinc, full blood count, liver function, and hormone panel (testosterone, DHT, SHBG) as appropriate. Results guide treatment selection and allow identification of correctable contributing deficiencies.
